DIVING SAFARI IN THE MALDIVES

Image title

THE MALDIVES - A PARADISE

Seven days cruising around this stunning and picturesque archipelago in search of amazing dive spots. All in the comfort of a beautiful yacht.

Lying in the Indian Ocean, south-west of India and Sri Lanka, the Republic of Maldives is a spectacular chain of 26 atolls containing 1,192 coral islands. These all sit atop a 960 km long submarine ridge that rises sharply from the depths of the ocean.

With its highest point only 2.4 metres above sea level, this is the lowest country in the world, putting climate change foremost in the minds of the Maldivian people.

These mesmerizing islands, most with their own large lagoon, are home to lush vegetation where bread trees and coconut palms are aplenty. You’ll even find small groves of banana plants!

Przepiękne MalediwyImage titleImage title

The white sandy beaches of the Maldives are famous, their striking contrast against the azure sea create a dream-like picture of paradise. As well as its scenic beauty, the ocean is home to the mainstay of the Maldivian economy – fishing, with tuna and mackerel abundant. It’s believed the original settlers of the islands came from Southern India and Sri Lanka; traders from Arabia, Malaya, Madagascar, Indonesia, and China also visited throughout the islands’ history. The inhabitants (and visitors!) enjoy a hot and humid equatorial climate with an average annual temperature of 30°C – perfect for swimming!

Although beautiful above sea-level, underwater is a whole new experience. Every dive throws up something new from manta rays, turtles, and sharks to barracuda, tuna, and massive snapper. However, the king of these seas is the huge but gentle whale shark, roaming the reefs in search of its next meal. There’s a good chance we’ll meet these great beasts up close as we dive and snorkel, some are as large as 3 metres (but not dangerous) and rubbing up against them is a truly remarkable experience, particularly during night dives when up to a dozen may accompanying us.

This diving safari is attractive not only to divers but also their companions. A very comfortable boat, superb cuisine, and an interesting fun-filled programme make sure of that.

WHAT’S PLANNED?

Visit the islands – plenty of opportunities to get off the boat and set foot on some of the most beautiful islands in the world. Walk along the beach and feel the white sand underfoot, see local life, homes, temples, farmland, and pick-up a few souvenirs on the way.

Lost island party – an entertaining and unforgettable time spent on a small remote island: alfresco dining, fantastic Thai cuisine, live Sinhalese music, and a magical sunset beach walk.

Total relaxation – without a care in the world take in the stunning panoramas of the Maldivian world as our yacht meanders slowly between picture-perfect islets.

Fascinating diving – visit sites abundant in underwater life including whale sharks, manta rays, and many many other species that make the Indian Ocean their home!

Superb cuisine – experience the region’s wonderful food. Watch a local chef in action and learn to make tasty curries as well as prepare fresh fish. Try mouthwatering sashimi prepared from tuna straight out of the Maldivian seas, we also have a go at making our own sushi!

The Maldives from above – optionally, take a seaplane sightseeing flight over these paradise islands; breathtaking views!

Fishing – enthusiasts will find nothing better than trolling for big fish as we sail from island to island. Tuna, mahi mahi, barracuda, jackfish, and trevally are all ready to be caught!

Explore Malé – the last day is spent in the capital Malé. Time for shopping, maybe at the great local market, or just admire the stunning views!

Our home for this 7 day SAFARI is the beautiful and very comfortable yacht M/Y Horizon III. She takes us on our search for awesome reefs through the many picturesque islands including, among others, Vaavu Atoll and Ari Atoll, both well-known as excellent dive sites.

There are actually three boats in total:

  • Horizon III – this is the main boat which we live on between dives. With 12 cabins and 35 metres long there’s plenty of space for everyone. The lower deck contains 9 standard cabins; the middle deck contains a lounge with refreshments, this is where briefings take place and is a place to chill out on the sofas after diving, there are also 2 deluxe cabins and the kitchen on this level; the upper deck is for dining and where we eat our (delicious!) meals, here we also find the captain’s bridge and a master deluxe cabin. Finally, the outside deck on top of the yacht is the ideal spot for sunbathing and relaxing! The boat can comfortably host 24 guests and there is still room for a jacuzzi!
  • Dhoni – this is a support boat used as our base for diving and where our equipment is kept. As well as providing divers with more precise water entry and exit, it keeps the noise that goes with diving away from guests relaxing on the main boat.
  • Dinghy (motorised) - for taking us ashore to local beaches.

Image titleImage title

Our group will be accompanied by two local guides and a highly-trained boat crew.

Important information:

  • Divers must have a dive computer.
  • Each dive pair must have a delayed surface marker buoy (DSMB) which is deployed before each ascent.
  • Cylinders are 12-litre INT/DIN; 15-litre available on request.
  • There are no mandatory vaccinations.
  • Entry to the Maldives is visa-free for up to 90 days.
  • Diving insurance is compulsory – this can be purchased through us.

ITINERARY

Day 1 – Flight from Warsaw to Malé (with a change).

Day 2 – Touchdown in Malé and then board our boat with a welcome lunch. Make sure your camera equipment is ready to go, our next stop is a diving photographer's paradiseFelidhoo! From reef sharks to shrimp you won’t know where to point the camera!

Day 3 – Vaavu Atoll, more reef sharks and plenty of other pelagic species on show.

Day 4 – Meemu Atoll. We start in the northern area, then head to the south. Manta rays, pelagic species, grey reef sharks, eagle rays, and stunning underwater channels await us!

Day 5 – Faafu Atoll. This is a great place to spot whale sharks as well as manta and eagle rays, whitetip reef sharks, rainbow runners, and barracuda.

Day 6 – We head to Ari Atoll. Here we’ll find some of the most popular dive sites. The first day we dive Maamigilia and the second we explore the waters around Radhiga. More fantastic sea-life including manta rays, whale sharks, and hammerheads can be expected.

Day 7 – We head back to Malé!

Day 8 – We disembark from our boat and (unfortunately) start our journey home.

OUR TEAM

Dom Lee Zaax

Dom has started his scuba diving adventure in the cold waters of the Baltic Sea at an early age of nine. Nowadays, he is a global nomad who enjoys soaking up the sun, exploring new destinations and diving whenever it is possible. On the never-ending quest for the unknown, the different, and the untouched. Travel professional with over two decades of experience within the airlines and tour operating industry. His passion for travel and underwater explorations, as well as a constant drive to promote his beloved sport, landed him as a partner at a Copenhagen based publisher of scuba diving magazines. Dom feels at home almost everywhere as he has spent a vast amount of time travelling the world. So far, he has visited over seventy countries and territories, and became an expert on diving in South East Asia and the Far East where he has made his previous, longer than usual “stopovers”. Just recently he has decided to settle down in Aqaba, the sunniest corner of the Red Sea.
His guilty pleasures involve a good book, world cinema and strolling side streets and dark alleys of big cities with his camera.
Bump into him somewhere out there... under the sun, out in the sea, on a boat, or most likely - just underneath it!

Maja Kłosińska

Our special agent. Fun and outgoing, the life and soul of the party, forever on the go. Occasionally slows down to take a moment, perhaps to enjoy her love for local cuisine, or engage those around her in stimulating discussion on all manner of topics. Easy going and down to earth Maja is a diver through and through, with many years of experience as both an instructor and owner of a large diving centre. Organises professional diving expeditions and has been connected with PAZOLA for several years. An art historian with a broad range of knowledge and interests; she will eagerly join you on your journey of discovery and fascinate you with details about the amazing places we visit. Often living out of a suitcase and following her passion for travel, Maja is a real `people person’ and says she’s inspired by those she meets along the way.

SONAM JAMTHSO – nasz człowiek w Bhutanie.

I was born into a family of yak farmers and my childhood memories are filled with magnificent mountains, furry animals, and wonderful nature, but also hard work, and the cold. I always knew I wanted to combine my life with tourism, so at the age of 16, I began work caring for horses as a trekking assistant. After graduating from school, I became a licensed English-speaking guide in the Kingdom of Bhutan. I take great pleasure in showing visitors the beauty of my country and bringing its culture and history closer. I have great respect for my homeland which has made me who I am. I’m proud of being Bhutanese and you too will fall in love with our wonderful Kingdom. Come visit! From PAZOLA.com: Sonam is our Bhutanese star. He has exceptional knowledge of his country, is caring, level-headed and calm. Always faces challenges with a smile on his face. Our clients invariably come back from Bhutan delighted with his service!

Michał Sieczkowski

A lawyer by education but the lure of food and travel was too great, his passions won out and instead of finding himself behind a desk he finds himself trotting the globe in search of his next adventure fix. A diving instructor for more than a dozen years, he has an open mind that's hungry to learn about new places and chase new experiences. Comfortable finding his way around a kitchen, he is forever searching for new flavours and culinary inspiration from the farthest corners of the earth. With pleasure will roll up his sleeves and cook up a feast for everyone! Favourite dish - fried stonefish, feels best - in the Raja Ampat Islands, hobby - a passionate motorcyclist who loves the wind in his hair. Michał's philosophy in life can be summed up: I can't do it? Hold my drink, I'll show you!
