ITINERARY

Day 1 and Day 2 – Depart Warsaw for Auckland, New Zealand (with changes).

Image title

Day 3 – Arrival in Auckland and transfer to our hotel. After such a long journey we have time to rest and refresh before heading out in the afternoon. We’ll be greeted by our guide who will take us on a fantastic exploration of Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city and found on the North Island (the other major island being the ‘South Island’). We start by visiting the crater of Mt. Eden, a long ago extinct volcano. This hill provides us with a great panoramic view of the Auckland area from the Hauraki Gulf and city centre to the Waitakere Mountain Range and Manukau Harbour. We then go for a stroll in Auckland Domain and its beautiful winter gardens before moving on to Mission Bay. For those brave enough, the evening brings a chance to go up the 328 metre high Skytower, an observation, and telecommunications tower which dominates the Auckland skyline. The observation deck sits at 220 metres and provides more stunning views over Auckland. We then return to our hotel.

Image titleImage titleImage title

Day 4 – Auckland, Waitomo Caves, and Tongariro National Park. After breakfast we leave Auckland and head south, part of our journey will be along the Waikato River, New Zealand’s longest. We’ll then reach the 30 million-year-old Waitomo Caves! A tour sees us sail through the underground caves where we are presented with the sight of amazing stalactites, like wax dripping from the ceiling! However, this is only a taster, when the flash-lights are turned off the main show starts, a huge constellation of stars appears above our heads and reflects on the water below, a mind-blowing experience! This phenomenon is thanks to the extraordinary bioluminescent glow-worms that inhabit these underground caverns. After our visit to these unique caves, we pass through picturesque hills and native forest in the Taumarunui area to reach New Zealand’s oldest national park and a UNESCO World Heritage site – Tongariro National Park. Our accommodation is in a hotel for the night.

Image titleImage title

Day 5 – Tongariro National Park and Rotorua. Lying on the North Island’s Central Plateau is the unique Tongariro National Park. There are three active volcanoes within its borders: Ruapehu, Naguaruhoe, and Tongariro after which the park takes its name. We trek part of the Tongariro Crossing route, a fantastic chance to take in the wonderful volcanic landscape and sweeping views, as well as set eyes on Mount Doom from Lord of the Rings! (Mt. Naguaruhoe). After breathing in the fresh mountain air, we drive on and pass through the sleepy town of Taupo on the shores of the great lake that shares its name. This lake is New Zealand’s largest and is a volcanic crater created by a supervolcanic eruption 26,500 years ago! The afternoon sees us reach our hotel in the famously geothermal town of Rotorua and after some time to rest we head out in the evening for an authentic Maori experience. On arrival at Tamaki Maori Village, we are traditionally welcomed and treated to a night of Maori art, customs, song, and dance. One of the highlights will be a hangi! This is the traditional Maori method of cooking food in a ground pit on heated stones – delicious! After our eventful evening, we return to hour hotel.

Image titleImage titleImage titleImage title

Day 6 – Rotorua and Auckland. Today is an exploration of the Rotorua area with its 18 shimmering lakes and 3 major rivers. We start with the picturesque Blue, Green, and Tarawera lakes set amongst New Zealand’s characteristic dense bush. Nearby, we’ll visit Whakarewarewa Forest with its huge Redwoods and Te Puia – famous for it hot springs, mud pools, and active Pohutu geyser! Here we also get-up-close with New Zealand’s national bird, the flightless Kiwi (a name that New Zealanders are also colloquially known by!). Then it's time to head back to Auckland but not without another Lord of the Rings experience! On the way, we call into Hobbiton, the home of Bilbo and Frodo (real-life Matamata!). You’ll see the charming Hobbit village created for the films sitting amongst pleasant rolling green hills. A visit to Hamilton gardens is also planned before reaching our Auckland hotel.

Day 7 to Day 10 – Auckland to Nadi (Fiji). After breakfast, we transfer to the airport for our flight to Fiji and three wonderful days.

Image title

Bula! (Hello, how are you!) may be the first word you hear on arrival in Nadi and sets the happy mood for this laid-back tropical paradise. After checking-in to our luxury hotel, it’s time for relaxing and… well, just plain lazing about! Soak-up the south pacific island atmosphere with its wonderfully friendly people, the ever-present smell of hibiscus flowers, turquoise sea, white sandy beaches, and the divine taste of fresh lobster! You’ll be wondering how you are going to pull yourself away as you sit sipping on a cool refreshing drink under the warmth of the sun’s rays.

Image titleImage title

Diving fans will be in great anticipation of experiencing this unofficial ‘world capital of soft coral’. The Fijian archipelago provides outstanding diving seascapes filled with unreal colour and fish. The underwater world awaits!

Image titleImage title

For anyone wanting to explore the islands, Fiji has plenty to offer. Take an amazing boat trip along the Sigatoka River to a local village and the Sigatoka Sand Dunes. Or maybe a trek in the stunning Tavoro National Park.

Image titleImage title

If you’re looking for a religious experience try the colourful Sri Siva Subramaniya temple – the largest Hindu temple in the southern hemisphere. Historically built by the local Hindu population, it is styled in the traditions of ancient Dravidian architecture from the southern part of India and dedicated to the deity of Murugan.

Image titleImage title

Day 10 – Nadi (Fiji) to Auckland. After breakfast, we travel to the airport for our flight back to Auckland. After touching down we transfer to our hotel, the rest of the day and night are free!

Day 11 – Auckland to Papeete. From our Auckland hotel, we transfer to the airport for our departing flight to Papeete on the island of Tahiti and the capital of French Polynesia. You may notice we’ve gone back a day because we crossed the international date line! We transfer to our hotel and spend the night in Papeete.

Day 12 to Day 17 – Papeete to Bora Bora. After breakfast, it’s back to the airport for our onward flight to Bora Bora where we spend the next few days.

Image title

As we approach the beautiful island of Bora Bora from the air, be sure to look out the window, you’ll soon realise that every description you’ve ever read or heard about this place was no exaggeration – the beauty is staggering. It’s no surprise that in Polynesian mythology the island is known as ‘Mai Te Pora’ which translates directly as ‘Created by The Gods’. A place full of romance and raw beauty all at once.

If anyone was asked to describe paradise then this just might be it. The centre of Bora Bora rises up out of the South Pacific Ocean as a towering volcanic peak, surrounded by charming islets and a to-die-for turquoise lagoon encircled by a stunning coral barrier reef. Perfect sandy beaches meander around the islands like a lost white ribbon. The memory of this place will stay with you for the rest of your life.

Image titleImage title

We touchdown on this beautiful atoll in the small airport of Motu Mute. From here everything is taken care of, porters will look after our luggage while we take a special water taxi to our luxury 5-star hotel. We have five days of pure rest and recreation ahead of us!

Image title

As you feel the warmth of the tropical sun and listen to the lapping waters of the Pacific there will be some tough decisions required. Do I spend the day on the beach? In a hammock? Or on the veranda of our stunning hotel? Maybe I should head out into those translucent waters? Watersports enthusiasts also have many choices to make: kitesurfing, windsurfing, water skiing, and diving.

The undersea world here is spectacular and with 50 metres of visibility, it’s difficult to find a better place for snorkelling and diving. Submersing in the warm Pacific waters brings a beautiful world of coral gardens, stingrays, sea turtles, parrotfish, huge manta rays, and lemon sharks among others.

In the evening you can sit back with a drink in hand and think about doing it all again the next day, it’s a tough life!

Image titleImage title

Bora Bora provides numerous other attractions if you need a break from relaxing on the beach. Options include taking a cruise, renting a catamaran, or horse riding. Those who like to walk and want to explore the surrounding island can venture deeper into the jungle and discover remarkable hibiscus flowers that change colour, wild pineapples, coconuts (the pulp of which is used to produce cosmetics), and many other species in the lush vegetation.

Image titleImage titleImage titleImage titleImage titleImage title

Image titleImage titleImage title

Those searching for something completely different can always try diving for their very own Tahitian pearl!

Image titleImage title

Day 17 – Bora Bora to Papeete. In the evening our Bora Bora adventure comes to an end and we take the water taxi back to the airport for our flight to Papeete. In Papeete, we transfer to our hotel for the night.

Day 18 – Papeete to Auckland then long-haul flight back to Warsaw. After breakfast, we transfer to the airport and fly to Auckland. We then change to our long-haul flight to Warsaw (with changes).

Day 19 – Touchdown in Warsaw.

End of trip.

SONAM JAMTHSO – our man in Bhutan

I was born into a family of yak farmers and my childhood memories are filled with magnificent mountains, furry animals, and wonderful nature, but also hard work, and the cold. I always knew I wanted to combine my life with tourism, so at the age of 16, I began work caring for horses as a trekking assistant. After graduating from school, I became a licensed English-speaking guide in the Kingdom of Bhutan. I take great pleasure in showing visitors the beauty of my country and bringing its culture and history closer. I have great respect for my homeland which has made me who I am. I’m proud of being Bhutanese and you too will fall in love with our wonderful Kingdom. Come visit!
